"Mustafa Varank received technical information from officials regarding the condition of the transplanted olive trees and the rehabilitation efforts, and in his statement following the on-site inspection, he said:"

"Mustafa Varank, President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey's Committee for Industry, Trade, Energy, Natural Resources, Information and Technology"

"This was a legislative study concerning the relocation of olive trees in a region surrounded by coal mines, so that those coal mines could be extracted and the power plants could continue operating. It was a legislative study that did not concern the olive trees in any other region of Turkey. Today, we came here to examine the olive trees that remained from the expropriations carried out between 2014 and 2017, which contained coal underneath and were moved after this law was enacted. The olive trees you see behind us are the olive trees moved here from the places expropriated in 2014-2017 after this law came into effect. They were moved in September. While these trees were being relocated, this transfer was carried out under the supervision of a committee composed of scientists who are experts on olives. As you can see, the olive trees have been planted behind us. Some of them needed to be completely pruned, some needed to be pruned by 50%. But these olive trees were planted here in the presence of the scientific committee and under their supervision. There are 159 trees here, I believe. Our colleagues provided this information and stated that only one olive tree failed to take root. And in that legislative study, we had emphasized one more point in order to continue protecting our olive assets. A new olive sapling would be planted for each relocated tree. Indeed, 159 new saplings were also planted in this region for these 159 trees.

Now, dear friends, we had stated what our purpose was in this legislative study. Actually, our friends in the region had also expressed this. We came here together with our colleague from the commission to obtain information about whether the implementation was being carried out correctly. Turkey is a very important country; with its industry, tourism, and very high energy needs. When we consider the wars around us, we can once again see how important it is to use domestic resources. Therefore, by utilizing our domestic resources, we will of course continue to operate our power plants, our base load power plants. And while doing this, our friends here are demonstrating with their work that our olive assets can indeed be protected. I especially want to convey this to both our citizens in the region and our other citizens from here: We will continue these efforts so that Turkey can advance further and become a more prosperous country to meet its needs. But while doing this, we will also fight to protect the ecological balance to the very end. You see this struggle behind us. Hopefully, the work here will serve as an example. We will continue to extract the coal here, and by relocating the olive trees here, we will hopefully allow our villagers to benefit from them. As we promised, we will continue to follow up on our work to do our job properly. After some time, these olive trees will continue to bear fruit again. Already, under the law we enacted, with the necessary expropriation fees, our villager citizens who were expropriated will continue their lives with the expropriation payments until productivity here increases.

But the point we need to emphasize here, as our friends just stated: These olive trees moved in September have started to sprout and turn green. There are records of each relocated olive. According to these records, both the operating company, our Ministry of Agriculture, and our ministry will continue to keep the inventory of these, to keep almost a pedigree of them. Therefore, the inventory of each relocated olive tree will continue to be protected," he said.
