Olive oil and health panel was held in Eskişehir.

A panel on olive oil and health was organised with the cooperation of Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality, Ankara University Food Safety Institute and Friends of Olive Association. Speaking at the event, Mayor of Metropolitan Municipality Yılmaz Büyükerşen gave information about the works on olives and olive oil in our city.



S-Olive oil and health panel was held in Eskişehir. The panel, which took place at Halder Youth Centre Conference Hall, was organised in cooperation with Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality, Ankara University Food Safety Institute and Friends of Olive Association. The programme started with opening speeches and the first speech was made by Mayor Yılmaz Büyükerşen, who attended the panel. Büyükerşen stated that they are going through a difficult period due to economic reasons and said that they support rural development within their means. He also explained the activities of the metropolitan municipality regarding olive and olive oil.


YB-ÖFirst of all, we distributed 15 thousand olive saplings to our farmers dealing with olives in the region, especially to our women producers, and then, under the consultancy of our Mücahit teacher, we collected approximately 11 tonnes of olives in 10 days in the orchards of 21 farmers in Sarıcakaya and obtained over one litre of extra virgin olive oil. In order to understand the quality of this olive oil we obtained, we took samples and had them analysed. While the results surprised us, they also made us extremely happy. According to the information I received from my friends, the free acidity value of our product was determined as two per thousand and the amount of bioferol as 836 milligrams. In addition, in the same test, we obtained the highest result in Turkey with 215 milligrams oleocanthal value. I would like to sincerely thank all my friends who contributed to the project, especially our professor Mücahit, and our farmers who worked in cooperation with us.

HY-I am also proud of this statement. I am jealous of Eskişehir, because I come from a city that has the highest number of olive trees and produces the most olive oil in Turkey. I come from Aydın, Manisa, Muğla and Balıkesir, which have the highest number of olive oil and olive trees in Turkey. The beginning of this panel should have been there. But I see that here, first and foremost, the vision of my esteemed teacher Yılmaz Büyükerşen and the vision of the people of Eskisehir have been integrated and we are organising the first panel here.

S-Following the opening speeches, Mayor of Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Yılmaz Büyükerşen presented a plaque to Professor Dr Mücahit Taha Özkaya, Director of Ankara University Food Safety Institute.


Then, under the moderation of Mücahit Taha Özkaya, an interview was held under the name of Olive Oil and Health."
